Di anima et di corpo

31.8.2016 in Festival Antiqua, Bolzano Italy

Di anima et di corpo is a concert or a performance of intense emotions, combining Italian 17th century music to new dance. The piece - performed by a harpsichordist, a dancer and a soprano - deals with big emotions using the Doctrine of Affects, theory of music in the Baroque era, according to which the function of music was to affect the listener's body and emotions. Music was capable of arousing specific emotions within the listener, causing physical reactions. How can one move the souls of a modern-day spectators?

Helsinki based artists Milja Aho, Anna-Mari Karvonen, Anna Mustonen and Emmi Venna premiered their new work at Kutomo at the end of April. The group has been working on the performance in Turku, Helsinki and Château de Monthelon, France during the years 2015 and 2016.

The piece will be seen in Helsinki during autumn 2016.

“We have been working in a library, at home, at a cultural center, in a forest, in a chapel, in a dance studio and in a stone castle in France. We were thinking of frankness, emptiness, silence, weakness and force. We were writing, speaking, dancing and resting. Fatigue, not knowing and inability were allowed to be part of our work. Now, two weeks prior to the premiere we still don’t know how to share our performance to the audience. In this situation there is pure nowness and that is our base.” – Working group Aho, Karvonen, Mustonen, Venna 13.4.2016

Performances at the contemporary art space Kutomo on Thu 28.4.2016 at 7 pm (premiere) and Fri 29.4. at 7 pm

Pedestrian Ballet – A Performance for Two Dancers and a Moving Audience is a performance based on a movement method developed by Rea-Liina Brunou. It takes as its starting point personal observations on what being a dancer means and on the dancer's body in relation to the history and the convention of ballet. The notion underlying the method is the idea of walking as a somatic exercise. The work is presented in z-free in a way that enables audience participation, and takes place partly outdoors.

Z-free is Zodiak's unique event concept where selected artists are given the opportunity to present their working methods, work on their ideas and engage the audience in the creative process. In autumn 2016, a Z-free demonstration is given by Rea-Liina Brunou. In this performance she is working with Miki Brunou, Anna Mustonen, Janina Rajakangas and Piia Rinne.

What happened when Peter Pan lost his shadow? He lost a part of himself. He chased his shadow feverishly along walls, while the shadow jeered at him and slipped further and further away, always one step ahead... Tinker Bell helped Peter sew the shadow back to himself – and Peter was again fit as a fiddle.

"I want to learn to dance again, because art has gone in the way of dance. I have asked three choreographers whom I admire very much to help me: Anna Maria Häkkinen, Anna Mustonen and Anna Torkkel. Please, make me dance as you wish.

Give me back Maija the dancer who lurks in the shadows.

Give me a chance to fall in love again." – Maija Mustonen

The Age of the Wind is a collaboration between Off/Balance and choreographer Anna Mustonen. It is a sensual performance dealing with clinging and detachment of the body and the surrounding matter. In this performance the dance happens when the performer gets involved in ia. running tight’s, designer vase’s or chiffon scarf’s choreography.

Skills4Life

Ensi-ilta 1.4.2015 klo 19   Teatterikorkeakoulu

Mitä on (nyky)tanssijan virtuositeetti vuonna 2015?

Teos tuo esiin ihmisen, joka tunnistaa oman elinvoimansa, osaa levätä ja rauhoittua, hyväksyy rajallisuutensa ja tanssii loppuun saakka sydämellään, yhdessä toisten kanssa.

Koreografia: Anna Mustonen

Tanssijat: Miika Alatupa, Elisa Keisanen, Anna Kupari, Joonas Luomala, Anne Naukkarinen, Pinja Poropudas, Johannes Purovaara, Katriina Tavi (tanssin koulutusohjelman kanditutkinnon taiteellinen projekti)
